The blood urea nitrogen (BUN) to creatinine (Cr) ratio in prerenal azotemia is usually greater than 20:1. This is because a decrease in blood flow to the kidneys (hypoperfusion) causes a proportional decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
